How do you see yourself?

This week I read 2 different books about modeling your literacy life. It really made me think of two questions to ponder; Do my students see me as a writer? Do they see me as a reader? Do they know how much I love it?

Sharing your love of literacy with your students is so important! My reflection this week is on how I am not modeling this enough. I really do not think that my students see me as a reader. When I was a kid I loved to write. I used to tell my family that I was going to grow up I would be a writer. I think sometimes I just liked to experiement with my handwriting. I do not usually share my love for writing stories with my students, but I should. One of the things I read in a related book was ways to show your students how much you love to read. This week I want to share an action plan that I intend to implement in my classroom. Here it is. Enjoy!

-Share my story background with literacy.
-Create "Ms. Dobson's Hot Read."
-Create a reading log for myself that I fill in in front of my students.
-Allow my students to create "Someday reading lists."
-Allow my students more choices in writing activities.
-Encourage my students to use their imagination in their writing.

Finally, a great find in the resource book! This book is awesome and has great ideas! "Igniting a Passion for Reading" by Steven Layne is definitely worth reading.
